Monetizing an MCP Server
MCP servers are a natural integration point for agent monetization because agents already use tools to retrieve structured information and execute workflow steps.
The safest pattern is to expose a recommendation tool that the agent can call only when the user is evaluating a product, vendor, API, service, or purchasing decision.
An MCP monetization integration should include:
- A `genesis.get_offers` tool for contextual sponsored suggestions.
- A `genesis.record_signal` tool for privacy-safe interest and feedback signals.
- A system instruction that requires relevance, disclosure, and no-fill fallback.
- Category controls so publishers can block sensitive or off-brand topics.
- Tracking for impressions and clicks after a suggestion is rendered.
The agent remains responsible for deciding whether an offer is relevant enough to present. Genesis provides candidates and tracking infrastructure, not a mandate to insert ads into every response.
